Lut and His Call
Here Allah tells us about His servant and Messenger Lut, peace be upon him. He was Lut bin Haran bin Azar, the nephew of Ibrahim Al-Khalil, upon him be peace. Allah sent him to a mighty nation during the lifetime of Ibrahim, peace be upon them both. They lived in Sadum (Sodom) and its environs, where Allah destroyed them and turned the area into a putrid, stinking lake, which is well-known in the land of Al-Ghur the Jordan Valley, bordering the mountains of Jerusalem, between the mountains and the land of Al-Karak and Ash-Shawbak. He called them to Allah, to worship Him alone with no partner or associate, and to obey the Messenger whom Allah sent to them. He forbade from disobeying Allah and committing the sin that they had invented which was unknown on earth before their time; intercourse with males instead of with females. Allah said:
ØŖŲØĒŲØŖŲØĒŲŲŲŲ اŲØ°ŲŲŲŲØąŲاŲŲ Ų ŲŲŲ اŲŲØšŲŲŲŲŲ ŲŲŲŲ - ŲŲØĒŲØ°ŲØąŲŲŲŲ Ų Ųا ØŽŲŲŲŲŲ ŲŲŲŲŲ Ų ØąŲبŲŲŲŲŲ Ų Ų ŲŲŲŲ ØŖŲØ˛ŲŲŲØŦŲŲŲŲ Ų بŲŲŲ ØŖŲŲØĒŲŲ Ų ŲŲŲŲŲ Ų ØšŲادŲŲŲŲ - ŲŲاŲŲŲاŲ ŲŲØĻŲŲ ŲŲŲŲ Ų ØĒŲŲØĒŲŲŲ ŲŲŲŲØˇŲ ŲŲØĒŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲ Ų ŲŲŲ اŲŲŲ ŲØŽŲØąŲØŦŲŲŲŲ - ŲŲاŲŲ ØĨŲŲŲŲŲ ŲŲØšŲŲ ŲŲŲŲŲŲ Ų Ų ŲŲŲŲ اŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲ
Lut's Denunciation of His People's Deeds, Their Response and Their Punishment
The Prophet of Allah forbade them from committing evil deeds and intercourse with males, and he taught them that they should have intercourse with their wives whom Allah had created for them. Their response was only to say:
ŲŲØĻŲŲ ŲŲŲŲ Ų ØĒŲŲØĒŲŲŲ ŲŲŲŲØˇŲ
(If you cease not, O Lut,) meaning, `if you do not give up what you have brought,'
ŲŲØĒŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲ Ų ŲŲŲ اŲŲŲ ŲØŽŲØąŲØŦŲŲŲŲ
(verily, you will be one of those who are driven out!) meaning, `we will expel you from among us.' This is like the Ayah,

(There was no other answer given by his people except that they said: "Drive out the family of Lut from your city. Verily, these are men who want to be clean and pure!") (27:56). When he saw that they would not give up their ways, and that they were persisting in their misguidance, he declared his innocence of them, saying:
ØĨŲŲŲŲŲ ŲŲØšŲŲ ŲŲŲŲŲŲ Ų Ų ŲŲŲŲ اŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲŲ
(I am, indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury) `Of those who are outraged, I do not like it and I do not accept it, and I have nothing to do with you. ' Then he prayed to Allah against them and said:
ØąŲبŲŲ ŲŲŲØŦŲŲŲŲ ŲŲØŖŲŲŲŲŲŲ Ų ŲŲ ŲŲا ŲŲØšŲŲ ŲŲŲŲŲŲ
(My Lord! Save me and my family from what they do.) Allah says:

(So, We saved him and his family, all. Except an old woman among those who remained behind.) This was his wife, who was a bad old woman. She stayed behind and was destroyed with whoever else was left. This is similar to what Allah says about them in Surat Al-A`raf and Surah Hud, and in Surat Al-Hijr, where Allah commanded him to take his family at night, except for his wife, and not to turn around when they heard the Sayhah as it came upon his people. So they patiently obeyed the command of Allah and persevered, and Allah sent upon the people a punishment which struck them all, and rained upon them stones of baked clay, piled up. Allah says:

What is Ramadan?
Rarnadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It begins when the new moon is sighted after the month of Sha'ban. It is a special month for Muslims. Ramadan brings us closer to Allah, and it brings all Muslims closer together.
What is Fasting?Â
Ramadan is also the month of fasting, or siyam. As you know, fasting is the fourth pillar of Islam. This means it is fard (required) to fast durÂing this month. Allah ordered the early Muslims to start fasting during the month of Ramadan in the second year after Hijrah (2 A.H). Since then, healthy adult Muslims have fasted all day, every day.
Siyam is a way of worshipÂing Allah by not eating or drinking from dawn until sunÂset. We also stay far away from bad deeds when we are fasting, and we perform extra good deeds. Siyam teaches us to be patient, to understand how needy people suffer, and to be disciplined.
The Benefits of FastingÂ
The month of Ramadan is a time of worship and training. Let us learn in more detail about the important benefits of fasting in Ramadan.Â
It helps us to gain Allah's rewards and forgiveness.
During the month of fastÂing, we have the chance to earn lots of good deeds and wipe away our sins. Allah rewards us for good deeds.Â
WE ARE PROMISED SEVENTY TO SEVEN HUNDRED TIMES THE AMOUNT OF REWARDS WE WOULD EARN FOR PERFORMING THE SAME GOOD DEEDS IN A NORMAL MONTH!
That's a lot of hasanat! Also, Allah will forgive all of our sins if we fast during the month of Ramadan property. Ramadan brings us closer to Jannah if we do what is right in the eyes of Allah.Â
It trains us to increase our worship of Allah more.
During this blessed month, Muslims do not just fast. They also pray more, read more Qur'an and give more charity. Prophet Muhammad (S) encouraged Muslims to perÂform more Sunnah and nafl (extra) prayers in Ramadan, especially during the night. Muslims pray the special Salat-ut-Taraweeh every night of Ramadan. This special salah is a total of either eight or twenty rak'aat. We pray taraweeh two rak'aat at a time. Taraweeh prayers are offered after 'Isha salah, but before Witr salat.
One special night that occurs in Ramadan is Laylat-ul-Qadr, or the Night of Power. This was the night when the Qur'an was first sent down to the lowest Heaven. This night occurs on one of the last ten nights of the month, and Muslims pray extra hard during this time, especially on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th of Ramadan.Â
According to the Prophet (S), those who pray the nights of Ramadan will be forgiven for all of their past sins.
Rasoolullah (S) also said that whoever prays throughout the Night of Al-Qadr out of faith and to gain Allah's reward, Allah will forgive all of his past sins.
It trains us to have slef-control and taqwa.
By fasting in Ramadan, Muslims train themselves to become strong-willed believÂers who practice taqwa (fearing and loving Allah). Fasting makes us remember Allah more, which makes us love Him more. When we remember Allah, we also remember to do good things and avoid haram actions.
We are stronger against temptations and the tricks of Shaytan. This is the way to taqwa, or piety.Â
It makes us understand how poor people feel.
Fasting helps us to underÂstand the suffering of poor people. This makes us better people who are more generÂous and humble with the needy. Fasting makes us appreciate the blessings that Allah has given us.Â
It trains us to maintain good manners.
When we fast, we try to develop good character. One example of this is controlling one's tongue. If someone harms you or hurts your feelÂings while you are fasting, you should not fight him or her back. Instead, you should control yourself and say only, "I am fasting, I am fasting". By saying this, the other person will know that you do not intend to argue or fight back. This helps us gain self-control, so that we always behave in a good way.Â
It trains us on making more Duaa.
Prophet Muhammad (S) taught us that dua'a are answered at the time when we break our fast, or, iftaar. It is important that we make dua'a every day in Ramadan, and take advantage of this month, so that we become closer to Allah, His Prophet (S) and Paradise.
Tell us about the benefits of fasting. If you have experienced other benefits when you have fasted, include them.
